A Hope in the Unseen

Summary:

The book that I read for ROAR was called A Hope in the Unseen by Ron Suskind. A Hope in the Unseen was about the life of a young boy named Cedric. Cedric grew up with is mother always there for him and his father in jail. Cedric’s mother and he always moved from place to place anytime she could not afford to play the bill that was due. Although he lived life like an average boy in Washington, D.C he did not have the mind like them. He was a very smart boy who loved to go to school and learn new things. Cedric had a rough life. Since his father was always in and out of jail he had problems with his anger. When Cedric graduated from Ballou High School he attends Brown’s University for college. At Brown’s University he found himself meeting a whole bunch of friends black and white. He soon find himself becoming slower than the other freshmen at his school. Through all Cedric does not give up he has worked to hard for him to give up now.

Quotes:

“A hip-hop tune bursts forth from the six-foot high amplifiers, prompting the shoulder-snug slopes of black teenagers to sway and pivot in their bleacher seats. It takes only a second or two for some eight hundred students to lock onto the backbeat, and the gymnasium starts to thump with a jaunty enthusiasm”. (1)
“ I want to make it to MIT or wherever for me, too. I know it’s crazy, but I believe that’s where I belong” (Chpt. 3, p. 49).
“You can’t hate everyone because of what some people do”. (10 pg 246)

Reaction:
All the quotes that I had have to do with something that has made Cedric life better and he learn many things. So when I read these quotes it makes me think that I could be like him. Not everything that he did in his life was good but it was useful. He made some mistakes that affected his life but later on he came out strong. I compare this with my life, things that I have been though bought be to better place and if I didn’t do the wrong things that I did I would not be the person I am now.
